The top of the implant sits level with the jawbone. This gives the dentist the most freedom to shape the gum for a natural look, which is why it is the most common type today.

What the connection means

The abutment sits inside a cone in the implant, like a cork in a bottle. The tight fit reduces micro-movement and bacterial leakage and usually allows platform switching.

About the surface

An oxidised (anodised) surface with a porous, volcano-like texture. It has been on the market since 2000 and has a large body of research.
