Single tooth implant
One implant and one crown replace one missing tooth, without touching the teeth next to it.
What it is
A single implant is a small titanium or ceramic screw placed in the jaw where the root of the missing tooth used to be. After it heals, a crown is fixed on top. It looks, feels and works like a natural tooth.
Who it suits
- Anyone missing one tooth who has enough healthy bone, or who can have bone added.
- People who do not want the neighbouring teeth filed down for a bridge.
Step by step
- Consultation and 3D scan – the dentist checks your bone and plans the position.
- Placement – a 30–60 minute procedure under local anaesthetic.
- Healing – usually 6 to 12 weeks while bone grows onto the implant. You may wear a temporary tooth.
- Crown – the final crown is made and fitted.
How long it lasts
Studies usually report more than 95% of implants still in place after 10 years. The crown may need replacing after 10 to 15 years.
