Marginal bone loss
Why a little bone loss around the implant neck is normal, and when it is not.
After an implant is placed, a small amount of bone at the top usually remodels in the first year. Less than about 1.5 mm in the first year and 0.2 mm per year after that has long been considered acceptable.
What influences it
- Connection type – conical connections and platform switching tend to show less bone loss.
- Implant position and depth
- Gum thickness
- Infection and bite forces
