Ridge augmentation
Widening or heightening a thin jaw ridge before or during implant placement.
What it is
If the jaw is too narrow, bone can be added to the side (horizontal augmentation) or top (vertical augmentation). Techniques include granules with a membrane, bone blocks and ridge splitting.
Vertical augmentation is one of the more difficult procedures in implant dentistry. Ask your surgeon about their experience and the alternatives.
Every mouth is different. A dentist can only recommend a treatment after examining you and taking X-rays.
